GTA 6: 25 New Gameplay Details You May Have Missed

Rockstar Games has revealed its most detailed look at GTA 6 gameplay yet, and the footage suggests Grand Theft Auto 6 will be far more than a visual upgrade over GTA 5.

From a completely reworked police system to more advanced car theft, new activities across Vice City, deeper interactions between Jason and Lucia, and an impressive level of vehicle detail, Rockstar appears to be making GTA 6 its most immersive open-world game to date.

Here are 25 GTA 6 details you may have missed.

1. GTA 6 Lets You Interact With Dogs

Jason can apparently pet, scold and study dogs, expanding the type of animal interactions previously seen in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Petting a dog also triggers an “angel” icon and a positive sound, suggesting that even small actions could influence a wider character or criminal profile system.

2. GTA 6 May Have a Morality-Style System

The new criminal profile mechanic appears to react to positive and negative actions.

It could function similarly to Red Dead Redemption 2’s Honor system, meaning the way players behave may have consequences beyond simply attracting the police.

3. Slow-Motion Combat Is Back

A purple meter featuring an eye icon appears beneath the health bar.

The footage suggests GTA 6 includes a slow-motion targeting ability, similar to Red Dead Redemption 2’s Dead Eye or Michael’s special ability in GTA 5.

4. Players Can Target Enemies More Precisely

When Jason activates his focus ability, different parts of an enemy are highlighted.

Red areas appear to indicate lethal targets, while yellow areas can potentially be used to disarm enemies instead of killing them.

5. Food Restores Health and Other Stats

Food appears to play a bigger role in GTA 6.

Jason is shown eating chips to restore health, while items inside Jason and Lucia’s fridge appear capable of refilling different character meters.

6. GTA 6 Environments May Be More Destructible

During a drug lab sequence, an NPC is slammed directly through a wall.

It is still unclear how widespread environmental destruction will be, but the scene suggests certain locations could react dynamically during combat.

7. Weapon Animations Are More Detailed

Lucia can be seen reloading a shotgun with one hand while carrying a bag.

That suggests GTA 6 includes contextual animations depending on what a character is holding or doing during combat.

8. Small Stores Can Be Robbed for Quick Cash

Not every crime in GTA 6 needs to be a huge heist.

Jason and Lucia are shown robbing both a waffle restaurant and a food mart, suggesting players can perform smaller robberies to earn money quickly.

9. NPCs Can Fight Back During Robberies

Civilians may be more reactive than in previous GTA games.

During a jewellery store robbery, one civilian attempts to grab Lucia’s gun, suggesting NPCs can occasionally intervene instead of immediately running away.

10. The Six-Star Wanted Level Returns

GTA 6 brings back the classic six-star wanted level.

GTA 5 reduced the maximum wanted level to five stars, so Rockstar is returning to a system used by earlier games in the series.

11. GTA 6 Has a Much Smarter Wanted System

The police will apparently track far more information about the player.

New HUD icons can indicate whether authorities have seen you on CCTV, know what clothes you are wearing, recognize your vehicle or know that Jason and Lucia were seen together.

This could make escaping the police much more strategic than simply leaving a search zone.

12. Police Can Lose Sight of You Without Ending the Search

Wanted stars can change from white to red depending on the status of the pursuit.

The footage suggests players may remain wanted even after police lose direct visual contact with them.

13. Changing Vehicles Can Help You Escape

Jason and Lucia switch from a car into a van during one sequence.

The vehicle icon then disappears from the wanted HUD, and nearby police fail to identify them.

That means changing your getaway vehicle could become an important part of escaping law enforcement.

14. Masks Can Hide Your Identity

Masks appear to have an actual gameplay purpose.

Wearing one during a robbery can prevent certain identifying symbols from appearing on the wanted HUD, limiting the information police collect about you.

15. Car Theft Has Been Completely Reworked

Stealing a vehicle in GTA 6 may require different tools depending on the car.

Older cars can apparently be opened using a slim jim, while more expensive vehicles may require technology such as a key cloner.

Players can still smash the window, but doing so appears to be the faster and less discreet option.

16. Character Switching Is Much Faster

Switching between Jason and Lucia appears nearly instantaneous compared with GTA 5.

Rockstar seems to have removed the lengthy satellite-style zoom that accompanied character switching in the previous game.

17. GTA 6 Has a 3D Minimap

The new minimap features detailed 3D buildings and streets.

It should provide a clearer representation of Vice City and the surrounding areas while navigating GTA 6’s open world.

18. Jason and Lucia Can Hold Hands

Rockstar is adding smaller interactions to the relationship between GTA 6’s protagonists.

At certain moments, players can press a button to make Jason and Lucia hold hands.

It is a small feature, but one that could help make their relationship feel more dynamic throughout the game.

19. Scuba Diving Returns

Players will once again be able to explore underwater areas.

The gameplay footage shows scuba diving alongside a dedicated oxygen meter, with detailed underwater environments and marine life.

20. Lucia Can Work Out at the Gym

Lucia is shown training inside a gym through a quick-time event.

The mechanic immediately recalls GTA: San Andreas, where players could train CJ and improve his physical condition.

21. GTA 6 Has Large Circuit Races

One racing event features 16 cars competing on a dedicated circuit.

The vehicles also appear to use proper GT-style racing setups, suggesting GTA 6 could offer a much deeper selection of organized motorsport activities.

22. Off-Road Racing Mixes Different Vehicles

Another race features 12 vehicles from several classes.

Motorcycles, ATVs and trucks appear to compete against each other in the same event, creating a more chaotic style of off-road racing.

23. Base Jumping Is Back

Lucia is shown base jumping above Vice City.

Alongside scuba diving, racing and other activities, it is another indication that Rockstar wants players to explore Leonida in many different ways.

24. Starfish Island Returns in GTA 6

Fans of the original GTA: Vice City should recognize Starfish Island.

The wealthy island previously featured large mansions and was famously home to drug lord Ricardo Diaz. GTA 6 brings the location back as part of its modern interpretation of Vice City.

25. GTA 6 Cars Have an Incredible Level of Detail

Rockstar has paid attention to even the smallest vehicle details.

Car interiors include working pedals and rear passenger window controls, while vehicles also feature functioning turn signals.

These details may not completely change the gameplay, but they help explain why GTA 6’s version of Vice City looks significantly more believable and alive.

GTA 6 Looks Like Rockstar’s Most Detailed Open World Yet

The most impressive thing about these GTA 6 gameplay details is not any single feature.

Instead, it is how many systems appear to interact with each other.

Robberies generate evidence. Police track that evidence. Masks hide your identity. Vehicles can be identified and swapped during an escape. Different cars require different methods to steal. NPCs react to crimes. Jason and Lucia have new relationship interactions, while Vice City offers everything from scuba diving and racing to gym training and base jumping.

GTA 6 therefore looks increasingly like more than a bigger GTA 5.

If Rockstar can deliver on the systems shown so far, Grand Theft Auto 6 could become the studio’s most reactive and detailed open world yet.
